We're celebrating the end of our 10 week pilot course of Branch Out and Cook
, delivered in collaboration with Chipping Norton School and local restaurant Wild Thyme. Over the last few months 4 teenage boys who struggle to focus in lessons have been learning cookery skills and getting brilliant kitchen experience. It has been a real success for the students who have mastered skills such as making soup, preparing eggs in 5 different ways, cooking a lasagne and baking bread and cakes, with a 100% attendance. The boys celebrated their last session by making their favourite - homemade chicken nuggets!
Wild Thyme have been amazing - Nick is clearly a natural teacher and mentor as well as a superb chef - and the school, impressed by the boys' 100% attendance record, have already prepared another team of budding chefs for this term's course. Our plan at The Branch is that we will have a community kitchen with 12 cookery stations
allowing us to scale up this work and engage with many more young people struggling with education who could really benefit from this experience and life skill..it may even open up a career path for them.
