Volunteering

Branch Volunteers

We love to empower volunteers. Would you like to help us?

We are so grateful to all those who have given their time, energy and skills to support our mission of reaching out to love our neighbour. Whether you were one of the 150 volunteers who gave their support during the COVID-19 pandemic, delivering 46,000 meals, or you may have been mowing lawns, baking cakes, crafting, mentoring, or serving coffee. Much of our work reaching out to the community to bring about transformation and change would not be possible without the support of generous volunteers.

Through The Branch we will seek to empower volunteers in many ways. Below are just a few examples:

  • Social Action projects – helping to create a home.

  • Serving refreshments for the courses that we run.

  • Baking cakes and biscuits to bless others.

  • Catering for occasional special events.

  • Supporting drop-in sessions by offering your company and a listening ear.

  • Packing and wrapping Christmas hampers.

  • Sharing skills as part of our Apprenticeship Ready programme.

  • Mentoring young people.

  • Running craft activities.

What our volunteers say

John

I have mentored many children over nearly eleven years and count it a joy and a privilege to have formed so many enduring friendships.

Sarah

I always look forward to Mondays when I help Jane and Emma in the kitchen to serve lunch for the Life Skills course. It's the highlight of my week.

Emily

I never thought youth work would be my “thing”, but the Remix craft room provides a welcoming (if sometimes chaotic) space where young people can bond over activities, and feel safe enough to share things that are on their minds.  It’s rewarding to be part of a team, and to come up with creative ideas. We’ve been using our new induction hobs to make play dough, fry bacon and cook pancakes. With the cost-of-living crisis, sharing food is more important than ever.

15 year-old baker

I absolutely love baking and I bake far more than my family can cope with.

It’s great to bake for The Branch groups because you know they will really appreciate it.

Kath

When she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and couldn’t work Kath felt she needed something to do instead to keep her busy and her daughters encouraged her to phone and offer to volunteer. She really enjoys using all the skills that she used to use in the workplace at Minis. She created this lovely sensory tractor play this week and has a lovely gentle way with the children and parents. Kath says it makes her feel useful and gives her purpose and distraction. We feel she is a precious gift from God to the Minis Team!

Emma

It has been a joy to be a member of the Life Skills team and to prepare and serve lunch for such a variety of people.

It's amazing to see the transformation of those attending as they gain in confidence and self-esteem in such a short time.
