We want to express a massive and heartfelt thank you for the amazing generosity shown by so many of you for our Christmas hampers this year. Over an extraordinary month we saw referrals, from our networks, for Christmas hampers rise to 183 households
, more than double last year's. Astonishingly this was matched by an extraordinary number of donations of brand new gifts and other goodies to fill the hampers.
As a result we were able to hand pick presents for each named individual, creating special tailored hampers to share a glimpse of joy, love and hope with 235 children, 198 adults and 55 elderly isolated
in our community who otherwise may have had little to celebrate. These carefully chosen gifts were beautifully wrapped and labelled by willing volunteers, and delivered by cheery festive delivery drivers.
Some hampers included food, either a turkey or a specially prepared Christmas dinners
created by Nick and Sally at Wild Thyme. When the first parcel was delivered the mum had forgotten what had been promised as the referral had been made by the Children's school back in November. She was so overwhelmed that she burst into tears and threw her ams around the delivery driver.
Perhaps the most unexpected response was from the elderly spending Christmas on their own. Many of them normally have nothing
to open on Christmas morning and several have written to say how touched they were with the thoughtfulness of the gifts. One even rang to thank us on Christmas Eve - he had woken up and seen the gifts and thought it was Christmas morning. It was only when he turned on the TV he realised he was a day early!
