Without a Home

Without a home

During the COVID-19 pandemic we found nine families without cookers – each week we meet families living without the basic necessities.

Partnering with a local transport company, Wigwam, we created Making Homes – working with Statutory services to identify families arriving in the area from refuge, prison or homelessness and work with them to create a home – all made possible by the generosity of donations from the local community and the support of another local charity, Thrive.

In the first half of 2023 we have helped families/individuals set up home from scratch – delivering four fridge freezers, nine beds, five washing machines, four sofas, and numerous small items including curtains, kitchenware, bedding and soft furnishings. We have sought funding for and organised supply and fitting of flooring in four homes.

Due to increased availability of housing, displaced families are offered housing in the area by social services, but arrive without access to the basic necessities needed to make a home for their families.

Keys to unlocking potential

Making Homes

We are keen to welcome newcomers to Chippy, especially those who have been homeless or been rehoused after time in a refuge or prison.  We work with the District Council & Housing Providers to make sure that these individuals and families have the basics they need to start creating a home and rebuilding their lives - from beds, cookers, to pots and pans (all donated and then redistributed).
