Meet Helen… when we met 4 years ago, Helen and her two children were fleeing domestic abuse. We are now celebrating with her
as she sets up her own business
and is creating the life that she and her children truly deserve.
Throughout this time Helen has had a picture of a phoenix rising out of the ashes, and we have named our current project, working with women recovering from domestic abuse, The Phoenix Project
...
Living through trauma or abuse for any length of time can strip away a sense of identity and often leaves a person feeling unseen and unheard. The Phoenix Project celebrates the stories of women who've experienced this - giving them a voice that will inspire others.
In partnership with Community Albums, and with generous funding from West Oxfordshire District Council these women are making a film to raise awareness of the signs and red flags of domestic abuse,
the help that is available and a life beyond that abuse. Using their own stories and incredible creativity, the women have taken ownership of the film and the message that it provides. Their collective drive is about offering hope to those that need it - "not wanting anyone to go through all they have".
This project is an amazing example of how, giving people creative and innovative opportunities
, space to process and use their voices, and encouragement to build confidence and belief in their abilities can lift them up and towards their aspirations
. It demonstrates what is at the heart of The Branch - the desire to come alongside people and give them the tools and support to build the lives that they dream of for themselves.
